The Heiligenkreuzerhof is widely recognized as one of the oldest and most beautiful buildings in Vienna’s old town.
Built in the 12th/13th century it is now owned by the Zisterzienser monastery of Heiligenkreuz. A majority of the courtyard sits on top of a multitude of medieval arched vaults.
The Heiligenkreuzerhof, including its chapel, was demolished during the baroque periode and rebuilt between 1659 and 1676 under the guidance of the Heiligenkreuzer monastery. After additional remodeling in the 18th century, its appearance hasn’t changed since.
